MONICA K. COPELAND
VICE PRESIDENT,
BILLING AND COLLECTIONS DIVISION

Monica Copeland serves as Medical Practice & Management Partners, Inc. Vice President and Manager of its Billing and Collections Division.  She was instrumental in the development and establishment of MP2’s Billing and Collection Divison.

Mrs. Copeland enjoys working in the area of physician office management.  In her experience, getting the medical practice’s business office setup and running efficiently from day one not only increases office and ancillary staff productivity, but assists the physician/s in being more productive as well.  Though she prefers to start anew, more often than not her challenge has been to ‘re-tool’ a client’s medical practice front and back office to bring it to a higher level of productivity.

Other areas of her expertise and experience are instituting good, sound office organization, policies, and procedures.  She develops customized Policy and Procedure Manuals, Rules and Regulations, Job Descriptions, and Work Processes.  As part of her practice management duties she has developed support and ancillary compensation schedules.

Mrs. Copeland attended the University of Alabama where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Corporate Finance with a minor in Computer Science.  She utilizes her minor in Computer Sciences to evaluate, recommend, and assist in the acquisition and installation of appropriate computer and business office machine technology in each client’s office.

ROSS B. MELVIN, JR.
C.P.A. (INACTIVE)
PRINCIPAL AND CO-FOUNDER

Ross B. Melvin, Jr. was actively engaged in the practice of public accountancy until January 2000.  He specialized in accounting, taxation and management services for health care providers and developed a health care consulting division within the accounting practice that he founded.  Although Mr. Melvin no longer practices public accounting he remains a member in good standing of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.

For over 30 years, while practicing public accounting and as Principal/Consultant for MP2, Mr. Melvin has worked with medical practices varying in size from solo practitioners to large group practices as well as hospitals.  Areas that he has worked in include revenue enhancement, personnel recruitment, evaluation and management, job descriptions, fringe benefits, patient surveys, practice mergers, income distribution plans, buy-sell formulas, practice entity selection, practice valuation, physicians’ transition from employee status to private practice ownership, and physician employment agreements with other provider entities.  He has also worked in the area of informal arbitration and conflict resolution.

Mr. Melvin has the philosophy that working with the client’s advisors for legal and accounting services, investment advice, and insurance coverage as a team often accomplishes the best over-all results for the client.  However, when the client is not represented in these areas or wishes to use other professionals, he or other MP2 personnel will assist in the process of selecting those professionals.  For certain services, such as bookkeeping, billing and collections, etc., the client will also have the choice of using MP2 personnel and resources.

Mr. Melvin earned his B.S. degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  He has been guest lecturer for Insurance Underwriters Association, IBM, Medical Group Management Association and the University of Alabama School of Medicine-Huntsville School of Primary Care.  His work has been published in Physicians Viewpoint Network Newsletter and Medical Economics.
